Samsung Galaxy S24 Can Translate Your Conversations in Real Time

The company presented Galaxy AI and a ring that monitors your health.

Samsung has something to impress tech lovers and then a bit more. The company has presented its new phones, the Galaxy S24 series, including the standard S24, Plus, and Ultra. They sport dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with a 120Hz refresh rate and cameras with up to 200MP, but the most interesting part for me is their generative AI functionality.

With the S24 comes Galaxy AI, which makes all those movies about the distant future come true. The tech can translate your conversations, in text messages, calls, or face-to-face, in real time so you will never wonder what the people around you say.

Here are some of the features:

  • Live Translate provides a two-way, real-time voice and text translation of phone calls within the native app.
  • Interpreter translates live conversations on a split-screen view "so people standing opposite each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said."
  • Chat Assist suggests conversational tones so the people involved know how the message is supposed to be perceived – perfect for users with anxiety.
  • Android Auto automatically summarizes incoming messages and suggests relevant replies and actions when you're driving.
  • Note Assist features AI-generated summaries, template creation that streamlines notes with pre-made formats, and cover creation giving a boost to Samsung Notes.
  • Transcript Assist uses AI and speech-to-text technology to transcribe, summarize, and translate recordings.
  • Circle to Search is a gesture-driven tool that works like Google Lens but for smaller details. "With a long press on the home button, users can circle, highlight, scribble on or tap anything on Galaxy S24’s screen to see helpful, high-quality search results."

Apart from this, Galaxy AI can suggest edits for photos, fill in parts of the image background, and create slow-motion videos by generating additional frames based on movements.

The price for the Samsung Galaxy S24 starts at $800, the S24 Plus is $1,000, and the Ultra version will cost you about $1,300. You can find the phones' specifications and Galaxy AI's full features here if you'd like to learn more about the new device.

Aside from this piece of tech, Samsung has also shown the Galaxy Ring, an accessory that is meant to monitor your health. According to Samsung's spokesperson (via The Verge), it should "empower more people to manage their health with a comprehensive yet simplified approach to everyday wellness at home." It will also have “leading sensor technologies” and will be comfortable to wear all day.
